Follow a new expedition to discover, document and dive on the Mid-Cayman Spreading Center. The R/V Cape Hatteras left port here at Duke Marine Lab last week to go south to Florida and then the Cayman Islands. An international team will be undertaking the first exploration of this ridge and hoping to find chemoautotrophic trilobites hidden away for millions of years at deep sea vents along this short ridge segment (150km long).

There are actually 2 blogs for this expedition: that of the R/V Cape Hatteras and it’s crew, and Oases for Life on the Mid-Cayman Rise which is run by scientists at Wood’s Hole Oceanographic Institute.
