TGIF: Glasswork from Dale Chihuly

Gorgeous photos of Dale Chihuly’s glasswork, taken by the ever-awesome Boston teacher/travel blogger/my college friend Lillie. Chihuly’s work looks very marine-life-inspired to me – three of my favorites are below. For more, head over to Lillie’s place or to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Happy Friday!

  1. I used to work around the corner from his gallery. A lot of his stuff is amazing, but it’s also quite often huge, really only suitable for public spaces.

  2. We were lucky enough to see a large Chihuly installation at the New Britain Museum of American Art. It definitely looked like a piece inspired by the sea, a rainbow colored jelly almost like a three dimensional update of Ernst Haeckle’s work. Mesmerizing and very beautiful. Hihgly recommend going to see Chihuly exhibit if it’s anywhere near your area.

One of our local art glass blowers has collaborated with the Mystic Aquarium putting some large glass sculptures in the Aquarium including in an 8′ diameter cylindrical floor to ceiling tank filled with Mono.
